Bringing Learning to Life
Spring Term 2023
Welcome to Minerva's journey so far in Year 2.
We have settled in well this year and are working hard in all areas of our learning.
We would like to share our work here.
This half term we have worked really hard learning all about adjectives and also focusing on our sentence structure. We have been retelling the story of Paddington and have produced some amazing writing
On Friday 12th November, we had a visitor! We started in the hall learning all about The Great Fire of London and acted out the events in chronological order. We then had different activities to do in the classrooms including looking at artifacts, making our own pretend gun powder, finding out more information about Samuel Pepys and playing a game. We had an amazing day and had lots of fun.
In English, our next unit is instructions. In this lesson the children discussed what instructions are and when we use them. We then followed some instructions making our own jam sandwiches! We noticed that the instructions were numbered and were very clear.
This week in art we have been looking at a local artist. We discussed what we could see in the paintings as well as the colours and the soft lines. We then used the paintings as inspiration to create our own watercolour paintings. We focused on the colours and even the time of day and the weather.
Today in DT we discussed woodland animals and their habitats. We then used natural resources to build our own nests and dens considering how sturdy it needs to be and to protect the animals from the weather.
Welcome to Year 1 Minerva!
